COBB COUNTY, GA. –  Marietta police have charged a 25-year-old Mississippi man with 13 misdemeanor charges after a three-vehicle crash on I-75.

The driver, Nicholas Demonthenes Braggs, was in a Hyundai Elantra, traveling north on I-75 at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the crash occurred. Authorities say he attempted to pass a Lexus ES350 near the South Marietta Parkway when he accidentally sideswiped the car and lost control of his own vehicle. Braggs’ car then hit the median wall before colliding with a tractor-trailer.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braggs and his passenger, Adrian Deonta Thompson, 25, were both severely injured in the crash. They were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment and were released the next day. Both were booked into jail. Braggs is facing 13 misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence, driving without a license, open container violations, speeding, possession of marijuana, and others. Thompson was charged with possession of marijuana, open container violations, and a seatbelt violation.

The occupants in the Lexus and the tractor-trailer did not suffer severe injuries in the wreck, but no further details about their condition have been released at this time. The crash remains under investigation and authorities say that additional charges are possible.
