On the other hand, second-degree burns can take up to three weeks to heal, and the skin has a higher chance of scarring. Third-degree burns are more serious and take longer than three weeks to heal, increasing the likelihood of scarring, particularly if skin grafting is involved.

Burn scars typically develop within the first 90 days, peak at around 90 days, and resolve within 18 months. As time passes, scars fade and flatten and become less tender.
