ATLANTA, GA – Three people were hospitalized following a crash involving nine vehicles in southwest Atlanta Friday morning, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The accident happened at about 8:15 a.m. on Interstate 85 near Cascade Road. According to the Georgia State Patrol, it began when a tire blew out on a tractor-trailer driven by 24-year-old Alvontae Bell of East Dublin.
The vehicle, which was carrying granite, struck a concrete barrier and the granite spilled out onto all lanes of I-285. A total of nine vehicles were damaged after debris was scattered on the highway.
The northbound lanes of I-285 were shut down for hours by the incident, causing major traffic delays in the area. Bell and two other people were taken to area hospitals. Bell will not face any charges in the incident, the GSP said.
